On January 22, 2022, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested two men from Southwest Louisiana for separate multiple DWI offenses.
Lake Charles, LA – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported on January 25, 2022, that on January 22, 2022, around 8:00 p.m., CPSO deputies were dispatched near the intersection of Leger Road and Hebert Road in Lake Charles in reference to a man passed out in a car. When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle and the driver, Jose A. Trinidad, 47, of Lake Charles, LA inside. Deputies indicated that they detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from his breath, as well as unsteady balance and incoherent speech when they spoke with him. Deputies also found alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle.
Due to Trinidad’s level of intoxication, deputies called emergency medical services, and he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Deputies obtained a warrant to have hospital personnel draw his blood.
Trinidad, who has two prior DWI convictions, was transported and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center after hospital personnel collected the blood sample and he was medically cleared. He was charged with DWI 3rd. On January 24, he was released on a $25,000 bond set by Judge Clayton Davis.
Deputy Cody Fontenot of the CPSO is the arresting officer in this case.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were also dispatched to a convenience store on Highway 27 in Sulphur at approximately 9:30 p.m. on January 22 in reference to an individual backing into a pole in the parking lot.
Deputies arrived and discovered the suspect’s truck driving erratically in the parking lot. Deputies observed the driver, Mark E. Ancelet, 57, of Vinton, LA, to have unsteady balance and a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from his person when they made contact with him. Several empty alcoholic beverage containers were also discovered inside the truck by deputies.
Deputies attempted field sobriety testing on Ancelet but were unable to complete it due to his level of intoxication. Deputies learned during the investigation that Ancelet had been convicted of DWI 3rd in 2014.
Ancelet was arrested and asked to consent to a breathalyzer test, which he refused. Deputies obtained a warrant to draw his blood, after which he was transported to a nearby hospital.
Ancelet was transported and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center after hospital personnel collected the blood sample. He was charged with DWI 4th. His bond was set at $50,000 by Judge Clayton Davis.
Sr. Cpl. Britt Poindexter of the CPSO is the arresting deputy in this case.
