$1.9 Million Safety Project Starts on I-10 in Lake Charles
Lake Charles, LA – On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that construction will begin on a $1.9 million safety project on a 4.48-mile section of Interstate 10 from the Calcasieu River to U.S. 171 in Lake Charles. This area includes two curves that are commonly the locations of wrecks involving overturned trucks.
The project will include the installation of new roadway safety enhancements such as high friction surface treatment, rumble strips, and new pavement markings. New pavement markings and edge line rumble strips will be installed east of the US 171 interchange from the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge to Kayouchee Coulee. High Friction Surface Treatment will also be installed on two curves near Shattuck Street and the US 171 Interchange.
Weather permitting, work is expected to take place Monday through Sunday at various times.
To complete the work, intermittent nighttime lane closures will be required.
The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2022.
Although there is no need for a detour, motorists in this area should expect some delays.
This area will be accessible to emergency vehicles.
